What is the dod skillbridge program?
The DoD SkillBridge program is a program that offers Service members the opportunity to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during their last 180 days of service. SkillBridge connects Service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences.
Major companies from around the United States such as John Deere, Amazon, and Northwestern Mutual, as well as locally grown companies have show their interest in teaming up with the SkillBridge Program in Louisiana to hire and provide for Veterans in order for them transition and prepare for this next stage in life.
What will this program do for our veterans?
Did you know that only one in four veterans had a civilian job prepared for when the veteran left military service? Or that forty-three percent of veterans reported that it took more than six months after leaving service to find a job, with six percent of those reporting no success in finding employment after leaving service?
Bringing the DOD SkillBridge Program to Louisiana would provide our active members with a six month internship program by partnering with private employers with no cost to them. At the end of the six month trail the employer will be able to decide whether or not they would like to hire said member and if not, they were able to provide our member with a great internship, a win-win for everyone involved.
Not only does The SkillBridge Program provide our Veterans with work experience, but it also helps to make the transition from active to out of service easier, in turn progressing their ability to get careers and jobs by giving them a bridge to recognize their skill sets. Through research is has been shown that hyper-focusing on a veterans career after service decreases the severity of PTSD as well as suicide rates in veterans.

Want to support ava?
Our goal is to raise $75,000 by Memorial Day.
What would the goal support? It would help us save the lives of 50 veterans by using the AVA Heal Program, a combination of Stellate Ganglion Block medical procedure and trauma counseling sessions.
These veterans are your community members who sacrificed everything so that you can enjoy the freedoms that you hold so dear; this last year has been a stark reminder of how precious our freedoms are.
If you are unable to donate at this time, there are other ways you can support us! Spread the word about AVA and what we do for our Veteran community.
